Your characters will be at a similar situation. Levels, skills and any character development will not move over toPSO2 Meseta New Genesis. Instead, everyone will start over at level one, rather than all weapons and units will be available because of using different skins. We have not heard anything regarding classes or if there will be significant gameplay changes, but we'll probably hear more as the release date gets nearer. Skill Rings are the only equipment that won't transfer since they will not be in New Genesis at all. Likewise crafting is getting a much-needed overhaul, so those items won't be accessible either.
Mags will take over, however they won't have the impact you are utilized to in PSO2. They will be more of a pet in New Genesis that doesn't effect your stats. This is another fantastic design choice because new players frequently fall in the pit of an unoptimized personality. Feeding them any thing without realizing exactly what it does results in having arbitrary stats and leads to problems like being unable to equip weapons and trouble in higher levels. Phantasy Star Online 2: New Genesis is a brand new breed of sport, and it'll be intriguing to see how well it performs together with Sega's current MMO.
New Genesis can enhance on other facets of PSO2, too. After a large update that trimmed down the boring objectives of narrative quests, what's left is a series of incoherent cutscenes with the odd boss struggle scattered in between. New Genesis, however, has its own campaign set in the long run, so I'm hoping Sega takes some of these lessons and builds a new story that is really worth playing and won't have to be trimmed down in a couple of years.
It is bizarre half-measures like that make PSO2 an MMO with a great deal of bags. For fans like me, it's simple to reconcile these annoyances because the thrill of combating elaborate supervisors and grinding for that upcoming major upgrade are really fun. But I have difficulty recommending a game that needs players to watch hours of videos just to understand a few of its fundamentals. New Genesis, however, feels just like a fresh slate. Taking what currently works about PSO2 and modernizing it seems like an easy triumph. Hopefully that's what Sega is actually planning rather than the usual surface-level upgrade with elaborate graphics. Big new environments and higher-detailed characters are fine and all, but it'll mean nothing if New Genesis doesn't repair the core issues maintaining PSO2 from being good.
