Spotting live cockroaches is the most obvious sign of cockroach infestation. Cockroach Egg Cases

Cockroaches lay their eggs in cases and the cockroach egg capsule is less than two inches long. And these egg cases will contain up to fifty embryos that will hatch within a month. Some cockroaches carry their egg cases with them while others will drop them somewhere. If you happen to observe such egg capsules in your home, make sure to discard them thoroughly. A high number of such egg cases means your home is highly infested with cockroaches.

Cockroach Droppings

Cockroach droppings or faeces are small black specks and it is often compared to the coffee ground or grounded black pepper. These drops also leave behind dark brown smear marks. These droppings can be observed near their hiding spaces like drawers, crevices of cupboards, corners, edges of counters and areas behind appliances. If you see these droppings, then be cautious while cleaning them up as cockroach droppings are hazardous to human health.

Shed Skin and Body Parts

Shedding exoskeletons and other body parts is a part of the life cycle of a cockroach and this is necessary for their further growth. And this shedding happens up to 8 times until they are fully grown adults. Don’t confuse the shed skin with dead cockroaches, these are hollow and will vary in size depending upon the life stage of the cockroach.

Unpleasant Odour

Cockroaches defecate in places they live and sleep, to produce a pheromone that attracts other cockroaches to that area to congregate there. This will be a lingering and unpleasant musty smell that taints items and it becomes more intense as the infestation grows. And this unpleasant smell will keep attracting other cockroaches to your property.
