Calculate how much subsidies you can get from your heat pumps project. Throughout Europe, different governments have introduced a range of subsidies to help households switch to more environmentally friendly energy options. Replacing an old gas or oil boiler with a heat pump can have significant cost implications and the heat pumps subsidy is designed to provide eligible properties with the financial assistance needed to simplify these conversions. Most subsidies are paid directly to the installer or investor through a grant or monthly payments over a defined period.

Which European countries offer subsidies for heat pumps?

Currently, 21 European countries offer subsidies for heat pumps, such as the UK, France, and Germany, each with its eligibility criteria. The following are examples of the subsidy policies offered by several countries for heat pump installations, and boiler replacement programs.

United Kingdom

Boiler Upgrade Scheme (BUS) is a government scheme designed to help reduce carbon emissions. It can be used by homes and businesses in England and Wales to upgrade from fossil fuel or electric heating systems to renewable systems such as heat or ground source pumps, or even biomass boilers - if they are off the gas network. If you are a landlord or have a holiday, you can also apply for a grant to upgrade these properties to a greener heating system, which will help you get a better EPC rating

  • £5,000 for air source heat pumps
  • £6,000 for ground source heat pumps (including water source heat pumps and heat pumps on shared earth circuits)
  • £5,000 for biomass boilers

Attention: Hybrid pool heat pump manufacturer heat pump systems (e.g. a combination of a gas boiler and an air source heat pump) will not be eligible for the grant. Application period: April 2022 to April 2025.

France

EDF Energy Bonus

The EDF Energy Bonus relates to the insulation of the house and the replacement of oil or gas boilers with heat pumps. This bonus can be up to €4,000. Attention: The project must be carried out by professionals who hold the RGE ''Installation or installation of heat pumps for heating'' qualification.

MaPrimeRenov'

MaPrimeRénov' is the energy renovation grant provided by FranceRénov'. French residents receive different bonuses depending on the household's income. Here is the maximum amount of MaPrimeRenov aid you can claim: MaPrimeRénov' Blue: €10,000 MaPrimeRénov' Yellow: €8,000 MaPrimeRénov' Violet: €7,000 MaPrimeRénov' Pink: €3,500

Austria

Austria provides subsidies for air, water, and ground source heat pumps, but not for hybrid heat pumps. Depending on the heating capacity of the system and the energy produced, the homeowner receives a fixed monthly payment. The government offers grants of up to €5,000 for single-family houses and €1,000 for multi-story houses. Local loans and grants are also available.

In order to reach the goal of carbon neutrality by 2035, European countries are offering policies and subsidies for new energy heating systems. If you have questions, you can consult your country's government website and heat pump companies for more information.
