The Roopkund trek, which lies in the Chamoli area of Uttarakhand, India, travels through a number of riddles, mythology, and local legends. This body of water is known as "Mystery Lake" because it contains horse and human remains from the Palaeolithic period. Thus, amidst the Himalayan ranges, the enigmatic Roopkund Lake continues to be of interest. Lohajung is the starting point for the Roopkund trekking expedition. The Roopkund base camp is what it is called. The small pass is situated 16,499 feet above sea level in the Garhwal Himalayas. Travelling to Roopkund, one of Uttarakhand's most famous lakes, allows visitors to take in the natural Himalayan splendour. View the Gomati River on the sides, as well as Nanda Ghunti, Trishul, Nanda Devi, and other nearby landmarks, in a beautiful setting. You will also be amazed when you approach the bone lake by the vast alpine vista and the glacier that surrounds it.

Day 01: Kathgodam - Loharjung

After reaching Kathgodam, head in the direction of Loharjung. You will arrive at your destination by using one of the beautiful hilly routes that depart from Kathgodam. When you arrive in this tiny village, find a place to stay and relax for the day.

 Day 02: Loharjung - Didana

Your Roopkund trek starts close to the town's bus stop. You begin your ascent at a height of 10,500 feet and proceed through a lovely forest of Himalayan cedar and oak trees. You will arrive in Ruan Bagad after a leisurely 2.5-hour stroll, where you will pass a historic bridge over the Neel Ganga River. As an alternative, you can travel through the village of Wan, passing by the Kulling settlement along the way. From this point on, the trail steepens and stays that way until you reach Didana as you head towards Ruan Bagad. Despite the challenging terrain, the walk from Ruan Bagad to Didna village only lasts about 1.5 hours.

Day 03: Didana- Ali Bugyal

After rising early and ascending to Ali Bugyal, continue the Roopkund trek. You have a choice of two paths to follow to get there. You can either go straight through Tolpani or take a diversion and ascend the mountains. Due to the steep ascent, the first path is challenging, and the alternate may require two hours longer. Whichever route you take, make an effort to get to Ali Bugyal before noon to experience the mesmerising views of the Nanda Ghunti and Trishul peaks.

Day 04: Ali Bugyal - Ghora Lotani

You'll feel a little worn out today because it's the fourth day of your adventure. You can therefore start the day later than usual and sleep in a little longer than usual. Ghora Lotani, a fantastic camping location, is where you'll be spending the day. You will get in Patat Nacholi, a wide undeveloped area of land, after passing through several lovely sites. You will be climbing from 12,500 feet to 14,500 feet for the duration of the day. So, your body is probably going to feel the effects of the change in altitude and weather. Exertion will also result from the climb. But you'll have all the strength you need from your trek companions' encouragement and the breathtaking beauty all around you. 10 kilometres later, you will arrive in Ghora Lotani. Get enough sleep because tomorrow will be a crucial day for your adventure.

Day 05:Ghora Lotani- Bhagwabasa

Due to the significant altitude gain, the next section of this Roopkund trek is considerably more difficult. You must take all required steps to prevent altitude sickness because you will soon be entering an area with a high elevation. You arrive at the temple of Kalu Vinayak, which has an idol of Lord Ganesha, after ascending a winding road. The temple is built by piling unruly pebbles and bricks on top of one another. Before continuing your walk, you can pause here and offer a good luck prayer to the god. From this vantage point, you can see Chaukhamba, Neelkanth, and Hathi peaks in breathtaking detail. As the terrain gets a little more difficult, you might encounter snow here depending on the time of year. The Bhagubasa campground can be found not far from here. Arrive at the campsite and adjust to the altitude. Tent camping at night.

Day 06: Bhagwabasa - Roopkund Patal Nauchaniya - Bedni Bugyal

You have a lot of checkpoints to pass today, which will make it seem like a lengthy day. You'll be walking for 10 to 15 hours, covering about 15 miles. It is an important day that will start with you setting out for the highest point on your walk, 1600-foot-high Roopkund Lake. Your first checkpoint after leaving Bhagwabasa is Chirianag, which will take you to the mysterious lake. If you're lucky, you might be able to see hundreds of fragments of human skeleton while standing at the lake's side. The long trek was well worth it just for this cold vista. From here, a difficult climb and rocky terrain will take you to the picturesque Nanda Devi shrine. The Nanda Devi Biosphere is not far from this temple. It is optional to ascend Junargalli (16,700 feet). On a day with favourable weather, the hard ascent will take you 45 minutes.

Day 07: Bedni Bugyal - Wan - Loharjung

Get up this morning and walk through the lovely meadows, pine, rhododendron, and oak forest to the Wan village. There are numerous hills and mountains surrounding the area that look over it. Visit the temple and engage with the locals here. The journey stops here. The approximate 18 km descent today will take 10 hours or less to complete. You will then be driven back to Loharjung from Wan. Spend the night at the lovely campsite in tents once you've arrived.

Day 08: Loharjung - Kathgodam

You will be driven back to the Kathgodam train station after breakfast. To prevent motion sickness, carry mint and pills. This is where the journey comes to an end.
